Michael McIntyre's second memoirs revealed

A Funny Life out in October

Michael McIntyre is to release the second volume of his memoirs in October – in which he admits he did not make a great talk-show host.

Entitled A Funny Life, the title is a follow-up to 2010’s Life And Laughing, which covered his early life and his rise through the ranks of comedy, from struggling open spot to playing the Royal Variety Performance in 2006.

The new book describes how he woke up the morning after that gig in the tiny rented flat he shared with his wife Kitty and their one-year-old son, excited but also clueless about the world of show business he was entering.

Since then, he has been broken countless stand-up records, including being the best-selling act to appear at London’s O2, and playing the biggest comedy gig in Africa, to 9,000 fans in Johannesburg.

Publishers Macmillan said: ‘In A Funny Life, Michael honestly and hilariously shares the highs and the lows of his rise to the top and desperate attempts to stay there.

‘It’s all here, from his disastrous panel show appearances to his hit TV shows, from mistakenly thinking he’d be a good chat show host and talent judge, to finding fame and fortune beyond his wildest dreams and becoming the biggest-selling comedian in the world.

‘Along the way he opens his man drawer, narrowly avoids disaster when his trousers fall down in front of three policemen and learns the hard way why he should always listen to his wife.

The comic revealed that he had been writing the autobiography during lockdown last year, explaining: ‘I always have to write first thing in the morning. I literally only have about two hours of the day when I am capable of anything.’

A Funny Life will be published on October 14.
