Third series for Shrill

Hulu renews Aidy Bryant comedy, co-starring Lolly Adefope

Aidy Bryant’s US comedy Shrill – which co-stars British comic Lolly Adefope – has been renewed for a third series.

Hollywood trade magazine Variety reports that the Hulu streaming service has commissioned eight more episodes, two months after season dropped.

The show is based on the book Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West, and stars Saturday Night Live’s Bryant as Annie, a fat young woman who wants to change her life but not her body.  Adefope plays her best friend Fran.

The first two seasons were bought by the BBC and are now available on  iPlayer.

Sue Deeks, the corporation’s head of programme acquisition, praised its ‘mix of sharp social commentary, engaging characters and relatable situations'.

The series also stars Luka Jones. Ian Owens, John Cameron Mitchell and Patti Harrison.
