HBO picks up Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan comedy

Delilah had been turned down by Channel 4

An Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan comedy which Channel 4 turned down has been picked up in the States.

The HBO Max streaming platform has ordered a pilot episode of Delilah, a half-hour comedy about a woman who has  introduce herself to a complete stranger who may or may not be her real father.

Jessica Rothe, who played Alexis in LaLa Land is set to star in and executive produce the show, Variety reports, with Kirker Butler, whose credits include Family Guy, brought in to rewrite the script after Channel 4 passed on the project.

Horgan’s production company Merman, which she runs with producer Clelia Mountford, is making the pilot with US outfit Kapital Entertainment.

The news broke on the same day Channel 4 has started to promote the forthcoming comedy This Way Up, written by Bea, executive produced by Horgan, and starring them both.  Read an interview with Bea about that show here.
