Kelsey Grammer joins Dave sitcom

Fraser star is a neurologist in hospital comedy

Fraser star Kelsey Grammer is to make a guest appearance in Dave's new hospital sitcom Porters.

The actor who built a career on playing a psychiatrist is a visiting consultant neurologist in the first episode of the comedy, which will air on September 19.

Porters stars Ed Easton from sketch group Gein's Family Gift Shop and Chewing Gum's Susan Wokoma as hospital porters.

Easton said it was 'totally insane' to be working with Grammer. 'He's such a nice guy and so amazing to work with,' he added. 'What's weird is we shot a lot of his stuff and then he had to leave so there are a few pick up shots where I had to act opposite a man in a beard and wig playing his part.

Wokoma added: 'He's so dreamy, I went into an absolute mess when I met him for the first time. He said hello and I was screaming inside, 'Oh my God!'.

'He was on holiday so came in and did a couple of hours [filming]. That's always a really good sign of how good a show is going to be when someone says they have one day free and they're willing to come in and join us.

The series – written by Dan Sefton, who also works part time in an A&E ward in Devon – also stars Rutger Hauer as another porter.

Easton said: 'It's so weird because whenever you say Rutger Hauer, everyone goes, 'Blade Runner? Blade Runner is a porter?' So that's insane.

'The read through was weird because he was quite nervous. He'd just flown in and this is his first comedy, so he felt like he was out of his depth to start with. I was tied to a bed for a scene and Rutger farted in my face! That was a highlight.'

Also appearing in the three 40-minute episodes are Claudia Jessie, Jo Joyner, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Mat Horne.
