BBC One orders pop-up quiz show

Comedy entertainment format for Saturday night

BBC One is to launch a new comedy quiz show for Saturday night TV.

But rather than being entirely studio-based, Ready Or Not will involve a team of roving hosts who will pounce on the public in unexpected locations such as shops, restaurants, high streets and landmarks.

One example is that they might  challenge a rider at the top of London’s Orbit slide, near the Olympic Stadium, to give a list of geography answers before they hit the bottom.

The hosts and have not yet been named, but they will include  Crumpet, ‘the talking dog’, ready to strike up a conversation with startled shoppers before hitting them with questions.

Six half-hour programmes have been commissioned by BBC One controller Kate Phillips.

Producers Remedy Productions say the show will involve ‘the unsuspecting people of Britain’ – and they have put out an appeal for friends and family to nominate people who ‘enjoy being surprised’ to apply to take part. In every game, contestants could win cash or prizes on the spot.

Matt Tiffin, Remedy’s head of entertainment, says: ‘We’re over the moon to be making such a warm, joyful show for the BBC. I can’t wait to get the whole of the UK quizzing… when they least expect it.’
