BBC Three buys Irish comedy Can’t Cope, Won’t Cop

BBC Three has bought the rights to new Irish comedy-drama series Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope.

The series, which aired on RTE last autumn, follows two young women, Aisling and Danielle – played by Seána Kerslake and Nika McGuigan – on their drink-fuelled adventures life in Dublin as they enter adulthood.

The BBC calls it a ‘coming-of-age millennial comedy-drama’ and says: ‘The pair have one thing in common - a fear of reality.’ It’s hoped the series will follow the success of Fleabag.

Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope has been made by Deadpan Pictures, which previously produced Moone Boy, and created by playwright Stefanie Preissner in her first commission for television.

She said: ‘The opportunity to bring the voice and experience of young Irish women to a larger audience is fantastic. The team on Can’t Cope did an amazing job capturing that voice and I hope that the BBC Three audience love it.’

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh said: ‘Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope is a laugh-out-loud series and I’m delighted that it’s coming to BBC Three.’
