Johnny Marr is his first guest

David Baddiel has joined the official Penguin books podcast as a host.

The comic’s first show as presenter has been released today, in which he interviews Smiths guitarists Johnny Marr about his new memoir, Set The Boy Free,

In the podcast, authors have bring along five objects that inspired their books. Marr’s items include a £20 note, his Fender Jaguar and T-Rex’s Jeepster 7" single.

Baddiel said: ‘It was great talking to Johnny. He also very kindly let me play guitar with him, which was a musical highlight for me. And no doubt a comedy highlight for Johnny.’

The fortnightly show has been hosted by Richard E Grant since it launched in July last year, with guests that have included Bridget Christie, Shappi Khorsandi and John Finnemore.

Grant will stay on, but Baddiel, Maxïmo Park frontman Paul Smith and presenter Konnie Huq will now be sharing duties

The Penguin Podcast has amassed more than 500,000 listens  and was named an ‘honoree’ in the Best Podcast category of this year’s Webby’ Awards.
