Disney releases Bec Hill's animation

Comic's football short for Euro 2016

Comedian Bec Hill has made a short animated film for Disney.

Her four-minute animation, Scoring Pointes, has been released on the entertainment giant's XDUK YouTube channel today.

A collaboration with Dublin-based Gareth Lyons, it is about a pair of ballet slippers with big dreams of playing football.

Hill, who wrote the short with her writing – and real-life – partner, Gavin J Innes, is known for using drawings on flip charts in her stand-up, often with lo-tech animation effects.

The Australian-born, London-based comic said: 'I partnered up with Gareth after I saw some of his other animation work. He's seen a lot of my flipcharts and knew exactly what sort of low-fi look I was going for, so the short has a really nice childlike feel to it.'

Scoring Pointes is one of a series of animated football-themed shorts launched today – the same day the Euro 2016 championship kicks off.

Tom Gran and Martin Woolley, also known as Spin Kick Bros, have also made one of the shorts, with Bristol-based Wildseed Studios,

Good as Goaled features rebellious Yukon girl Lottie Bearshout, who wants to tempt her responsible friend Hunter into a kickabout.

Other shorts released today come from France, Germany and Norway, with contributions from Chile, Spain and South Africa among those being released next week. The channel has almost 250,000 subscribers.

Disney executive Orion Ross said: 'Our London-based original animation team is always looking for new ways to work with the best talent we see around the world, and to bring our audiences fresh perspectives on the things they love. With a summer of football drama on the horizon, we asked creators to bring us original football-themed ideas, no matter how surprising or bizarre, and the final ten Disney XD FC shorts showcase an incredible variety of personal stories and styles.'

'There is a big emphasis on comedy, but also real heart, emotion and poetry reflecting the global passion for this game.'
