I thought a boob job would boost my stripping career

WTF: Weekly Trivia File

• 'Showbiz is a fickle old twat, who loves you one minute and then sleeps with Russell Brand behind your back. And brings you a mammoth yeast infection.' Dawn French.

Sara Pascoe once wanted to be a stripper, and even went for auditions. 'I had this idea that if I got a job as a stripper, I would get a boob job with the money and then earn more money as a stripper,' she tells Rufus Hound on Radio 4's My Teenage Diary on Tuesday week (October 21). Now a proud feminist comedian she admitted: 'This is the thing about having morals and beliefs, they are a luxury. When you're really, really skint, it's like a prison when you have no money. At this point… I was working in a pub. My food budget was £10 a week. There was a Tesco where Value bread would get reduced to 10 pence. And I would freeze it, so it was always fine, and I would have tomato cup-a-soups and that's what I ate. Being poor is so horrible. And so something like "oh, you could earn £300 a week just talking to gentlemen and having drinks" is like "oh my god, that would be life-changing". Her episode, when she goes through her journal from the age of 19 and 20, goes out at 6.30pm om Tuesday

Sandi Toksvig once got drunk with fellow comedian Mike McShane in New York and persuade one of the horse and buggies that traditionally take tourists around Central Park to give them a lift to their swanky 82nd Street hotel. When they got there McShane decided he wanted to take a picture with the horse, so they posed, and roped in a fellow guest entering the building to take the snap. 'You should be in the picture as well!' McShane insisted, so another photo was taken. 'This was in the days when you had to go to the chemist to get your pictures,' Toksvig recalled. So about a week later Mike phoned me and said, "Sandi I got the pictures back. You know the guy with the horse?" I said, "Yes?" He said: 'It's Lionel Richie."'

Catherine Tate once shaved off a former boyfriend's hair as punishment for him repeatedly coming home late, then keeping her awake with his loud snoring. She recalled: 'I wouldn't say I'm a vengeful person, but in the moment I thought, "Cut his hair off – that will teach him". So I did it. The moment I stopped cutting it, a voice in my head said, "You're fucking mental. You're absolutely crackers." It was the longest Night of My Life because there's nothing you can do. You can't put it back. You can't retract that. When he woke up, I was so petrified words couldn't come out. I watched him go to the bathroom, look up and I thought he was going to have a heart attack, and he was like, "What the fuck has happened to my hair?" I was about to say it was me, but then I said, "I don't know, you came home like that last night."'
