Chubby Brown: I'm cleaner than Jimmy Carr

Comic hits back after council ban

Roy Chubby Brown has claimed he's 'the Archbishop of Canterbury' compared to Jimmy Carr, after a local council forced him to cancel a gig.

The controversial comic had been booked to perform at the  Festival Hall in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, later this year.

But the council, which owns the venue, cancelled the booking, saying: 'The council does not feel that the booking was appropriate for a council venue and not one that it wished to be associated with.

'Roy "Chubby" Brown is quite able to perform in a non-council venue in Ashfield.'

But the comic – who freely makes jokes at the expense of 'niggers' and 'Pakis' in his set – hit back, saying: 'I don’t know what their problem is, have you ever seen Sarah Millican? She can’t go two words without swearing.

'And compared to Jimmy Carr’s act, I’m like the Archbishop of Canterbury.

'It’s happened to me before. But if they don’t want me, it’s not the type of venue I want to play.'

The gig was pulled before any tickets went on sale, but Chubby’s agent said that the comedian had already spent money for promotional material.
