Coel and Catastrophe lead RTS awards

Nods for Helm, Hills and Whitehall too...

Michaela Coel, creator and star of E4's Chewing Gum, has been nominated for three Royal Television Society Awards.

She is up for best comedy performance, the breakthrough accolade, and best comedy writer.

Catastrophe is another frontrunner in the awards, nominated for best scripted comedy, with Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney jointly up for best comedy performance and writing too.

Nick Helm completes the comedy performance category for his role in Uncle; with Peter Kay, Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman and Tim Reid completing the writing category for Car Share.

Kay's show is also up for best scripted comedy with BBC Three's People Just Do Nothing and Catastrophe.

The entertainment performance category will be contested by Adam Hills for the Last Leg, Jack Whitehall for A League Of Their Own and Ant and Dec, who are nominated for the 15th time.

The Last Leg, co-presented by Josh Widdecombe and Alex Brooker, is up for the best entertainment award alongside The Graham Norton Show and ITV2's horror-based game show Release The Hounds, hosted by Reggie Yates

And Channel 4's Alternative General Election with Jeremy Paxman and David Mitchell is up for best live event alongside the Brit Awards and VE Day 70: The Nation Remembers.
