Comic up for award for helming Veep

Chris Addison is up for a Directors Guild of America award for helming an episode of Veep.

The comedian has secured a coveted nomination for the Election Night episode, which brought the fourth season of Armando Iannucci’s political sitcom to a close last summer.

The Onion’s AV Club praised the episode as ‘an emotional, intense finale that finds room for satisfying character beats alongside laugh out loud humour’.

Addison’s fellow nominees in the comedy category are Louis CK, for an episode of his own sitcom Louie; Mike Judge for Silicon Valley; Gail Mancuso for Modern Family and Jill Solway for Transparent.

All except Addison have previously been nominated for the same awards, for the same shows.

DGA president  Paris Barclay said: ‘We’re proud to recognise the critical role of directors and honour the incredible range of talent and skill found in all of these projects. Congratulations to the nominees.’

The winners of the 68th Annual DGA Awards will be announced  on February  in a Los Angeles ceremony hosted by Glee star Jane Lynch.
