David Baddiel is writing one of the titles for next year’s World Book Day, to promote reading in children. His new novella The Boy Who Could Do What He Liked, aimed at those aged 9+, will be available for £1.

A DRAW for tickets to be in the studio audience for the next series of Red Dwarf opens at 11.30am tomorrow at reddwarf.co.uk. Applications will be accepted for two weeks before a random draw.

ENTRIES have opened for the WriterSlam competition seeking the best new comedy writing with a paid development commission from Tiger Aspect up for grabs. Aspiring writers should submit a 200-word summary and ten to 15 pages of script by October 4. Click here for full details.

CORNISH comedian Johnny Cowling is to become a presenter on local radio station Pirate FM, hosting the the 2pm to 7pm slot from September 28.

THE Greater Manchester Fringe Comedy Festival is open for shows to register. The event, now in its third year, will take place from November 1 to 10, in at least six venues around the city. Details.
