Tribute to David Nobbs

Reggie Perrin creator to be celebrated at book festival

Reginald Perrin creator David Nobbs is to be honoured at a literature festival that he had been due to attend.

The writer, who died on August 8 at the age of 80, had been due to make a return visit to the Henley Literary Festival in Oxfordshire next month, following an appearance in 2013.

So now organisers have instead chosen to throw an tribute celebrating his life and work, hosted by veteran comedy writer David Quantick and featuring Nobbs's old friend and former writing partner Barry Cryer.

Also appearing at the event on October 3 – in aid the Writers’ Guild Welfare Fund – will be authors Jonathan Coe and Andy Miller.

As well as Reggie Perrin, Nobbs wrote the sitcom A Bit of a Do, 20 novels and gags for comedians including the Two Ronnies, Frankie Howerd and Les Dawson.

Henley Literary Festival programming director Tom Ryan said: 'We were all very sad to hear of David’s passing but having been in touch with his family I’m delighted can celebrate the work of this very funny writer and lovely man.'

The Henley Literary Festival takes place from September 28 to October 4 and also features Sue Perkins, Tim Key and Katy Wix in the line-up.
