Lee & Herring & Little & Large

WTF: Weekly Trivia File

• Comedians Ivo Graham and Liam Williams are to follow in the footsteps of Winston Churchill, the Dalai Lama and Clint Eastwood – and address the Cambridge Union. But unlike their forebears, they will be telling the historic debating society about their sex lives. The comics will be appearing at the 200-year-old union on Valentine's Day to debate the motion: 'This House is overworked and undersexed' alongside the intellectual collossus of Made in Chelsea's Ollie Lock.

• He's been on a five-year mission to explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilizations… and now William Shatner has turned into a matchmaker for Scottish comedians. The TJ Hooker legend this week tweeted this, after being copied into messages from Janey Godley about her daughter Ashley Storrie:

Sarah Silverman has made an appearance in a comic book. The comedian cameos in the latest edition of Deadpool, protesting against tracking – the Marvel universe's equivalent of fracking...

Stewart Lee and Richard Herring once tried to write for Little and Large – but got turned down. Herring reprinted the rejection letter they received in 1990 in his Warming Up blog this week,  saying: 'In hindsight it's a neat little document of two worlds colliding that were never meant to meet.' He explained one of the sketches they submitted: Eddie buys a hotdog from a van at the sea front and coats it in mustard and ketchup. When he takes a bite the lubricated sausage flies out of the bun and lands in the sea. A few seconds later Syd dressed as a frogman emerges from the water in an agitated state. The sausage has got stuck in his snorkel. Sid waves his fist. Eddie looks at the camera in disbelief and then runs off down the seafront.

• Mel & Sue's new daytime talk show started this week… but the title sequence has a ring of familiarity about it. Theirs is first, followed by the opening of  Chris Addison's Show And Tell from 2011.
.

• Two of the puppeteers behind BBC Three comedy hit Mongrels, Warrick Brownlow-Pike and Andy J. Heath, are currently the star guests at FurCon in  San Jose. Furcon – or Further Confusion is one of the world's leading 'furry' conventions for fans of non-human characters with human characteristics, many of whom dress up to attend...

• Is this the world's worst showreel (of old Tim Vine gags…). Hat-tip ro @ThePolice for telling us about this:

• Tweets of the week
Daniel Barker  (@daniel_barker): Hey girl, are you compensation following an accident at work because TV keeps trying to convince me I'm entitled to you
Sebas  (@@OhLookBirdies): My dog lost his job as a Simpsons animator. He did an awful job at Lisa's bicycle, and his Bart was worse than his bike.
Robin Flavell  (@RobinFlavell): Thinking of joining Pedants UK? Your there sort of person.
