Robin Ince and Brian Cox go transatlantic

Robin Ince and Professor Brian Cox are taking their The Infinite Monkey Cage to the USA.

The pair have announced a four-city tour of their science entertainment show in March next year, encompassing New York, Chicago, Los Angels and San Francisco.

Guests on stage over the run will be astrophysicist Neil De Grasse Tyson, paleontologist Paul Sereno, physicist Sean M. Carroll and astronomer Seth Shostack.

Writing in a blog, Ince admitted that when he told some people the news they 'raised their eyebrows and, with a wry smile, said, "well that should be interesting".'

He added: 'Despite being a country of great science communicators, Nobel prize winning scientists, and home of the only humans who have stood on the moon, the USA now has a popular image of anti-science and myth hugging idiocy.

'This has not been my experience, but viewed from this side of the ocean, there does seem to be a media heavy with ideological motivated cynicism and a political system rife with men scared of evolution and keen to deny evidence when it rubs wrongly against profit. It is the Sarah Palin/Fox News effect.'

But he said some in Britain were just as culpable of following unscientific dogma.

Tickets for the American shows go on sale later today here.

And before they head across the Atlantic, the pair will be hosting Robin And Brian's Christmas Compendium Of Reason at Hammersmith Apollo on December 18 and 19.

The Infinite Monkey Cage is also due to return to Radio 4 for its 11th series soon.
