Very British Problems could go from Twitter to TV

Comedy format in development

The hit Twitter feed Very British Problems is set to be made into a TV show.

Producers Alaska TV have optioned a series based on the tweets, which currently have almost 900,000 followers.

No broadcaster has yet picked up the show, described as a 'comedy factual entertainment format', but if they do it would be the most high-profile British TV series to be adapted from social media.

In 2010, the Shit My Dad Says Twitter feed was made into a sitcom on America's CBS, starring William Shatner.

The Very British Problems feed was created by freelance journalist Rob Temple, who has previously turned the tweets into a book.

'Expect unnecessary apologising, an obsessive interest in weather and queuing, and lashings of awkwardness,' he told trade website Broadcast, which broke the news of the possible TV adaptation.

Recent posts on the feed @SoVeryBritish include:

• Being unable to turn and walk in the opposite direction without first frowning at your phone for three seconds

• "It's not quite what I had in mind" - Translation: What the bloody hell is this?

• Ending an email with "thanks" to let the recipient know you're trembling with rage
