Gavin & Stacey's US remake axed

Finished episodes may never be seen

The US remake of Gavin and Stacey has been axed, with the completed episodes unlikely to ever see the light of day.

The Fox network had already cut the series, retitled Us & Them, down from 13 episodes to six amid concerns over the quality of the scripts.

But now executives have formally confirmed that the show has been cancelled completely; and those completed episodes will never air. The show has been exorcised from the broadcaster's website, too.

The episodes had been filmed with the intention of launching this summer with Jason Ritter and Alexis Blede in the lead roles and a supporting cast that included Michael Ian Black, Kurt Fuller and Malcolm in the Middle's Jane Kaczmarek.

Had it proved a success, Us & Them would have made a small fortune for creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, who were credited as executive producers on the remake alongside Steve Coogan and Henry Normal. Their production company Baby Cow made the BBC Three original, as well as being involved with the Fox project with BBC Worldwide and Sony.

Channel 5 had planned to buy the remake for the UK but pulled out after production was cut back back in the autumn.

This was the third attempted remake of Gavin & Stacey in the US, after NBC and ABC efforts also failed to take off.

Here is the trailer for Us & Them:
