NBC picks up new Tina Fey comedy

...about a refugee from a doomsday cult

Details of Tina Fey's next TV project have been revealed.

The NBC network has ordered a 13-part series from the 30 Rock creator and her producing partner Robert Carlock on the basis of a spec script – without the usual rigmarole of pilots.

Although the half-hour show has not yet got a name, it will revolve around a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York City.

The central character will be played by Ellie Kemper, who played Dunder Mifflin receptionist Erin on the US version of The Office for four years.

NBC Entertainment president Jen Salke said: 'Original voices like Tina and Robert don’t come along very often and we wanted them back on the air as soon as possible.'

The series is expected to premiere in autumn 2014.

Since 30 Rock ended, Fey and Carlock have also sold a multicamera comedy to the Fox network. Also untitled, the sitcom takes place at a women's college that has just opened its doors to men for the first time.
