CHRIS MORRIS makes a cameo appearance in the new Richard Ayoade film, The Double. The Brass Eye satirist features briefly in a new trailer for the movie, in a foreign military uniform. The film, based on the Dostoevsky novella about a man who finds his life being usurped by his doppelganger, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on Saturday night:

STEVE COOGAN and Jeff Pope have won the best screenplay prize at the Venice Film Festival for Philomena, the story they adapted from journalist Martin Sixsmith’s book about his quest to reunite an Irish mother with the son she was forced to give up to the local convent in the Fifties because she was unmarried. Coogan also stars in the film, with Dame Judi Dench as Philomena Lee.

BROADCAST watchdog Ofcom has decided not to investigate 28 complaints that Channel 4’s hidden camera comedy show I’m Spazticus, which features disabled performers, breached its rules on disability discrimination or offence. The body considered the complaints, but said they did not raise issues warranting investigation.

STEVE MARTIN is to be awarded an honorary lifetime achievement at the Oscars next May. The comic, actor and writer said it was ‘a salute to comedy and all the great people I've worked with’.

HI-DE-HI! star Paul Shane left £92,000 after his death last May at the age of 72, it has been reported.
