New series for BBC Four

Getting On creators Jo Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine are to pen a new sitcom for the BBC, set at a dog training class.

Six half-hour episodes of Puppy Love have been commissioned for BBC Four – just as the NHS sitcom they created with Jo Brand has been axed.

Thick Of It star Scanlan will play formidable dog trainer Nana V in the series, which will be set in The Wirral.

The show will be directed by former EastEnders and Grange Hill actress Susan Tully – who also helmed the third series of Getting On as well as several episodes of Ruth Jones’s Sky series Stella.

And David Baddiel is one of the executive producers, alongside BBC executive Saurabh Kakkar.

The BBC – which is making the series through its in-house comedy department alongside the aptly named Woof Productions – describes Puppy Love as ‘a story of love, dogs and the love of dogs’.
