Sky working on country-and-western comedy

Sky 1 is developing a comedy series based on the country-and-western singing parents of actress Sheridan Smith.

Smith made a Little Crackers short for the channel in 2011 called The Daltons, the same name as her mum and dad’s band. Now the broadcaster is working to turn it into a full series, trade magazine Broadcast reports from the TV industry’s CFForum.

In the original, Smith starred alongside Ralf Little as a duo who head off on tour and leave their young daughter behind with a babysitter.

Smith once said of her performing parents: ‘They used to perform seven nights a week and when I was four I joined them on stage doing little dance routines. It wasn't long before I was standing on a stool joining in the singing.’

Head of comedy Lucy Lumsden also told the conference she is keen to find a big-name sitcom in the vein of Miranda and or Lee Mack’s Not Going Out.
