Lloyd Webber to adapt School Of Rock

...and he might add his own songs

Jack Black’s cult comedy School Of Rock is set to be turned into a stage musical – by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The composer has revealed that he has acquired the theatricalrights to the film, which he described as ‘a musical about kids playing the guitar’.

The soundtrack to the 2003 film featured music from the likes as Led Zeppelin, The Who, AC/DC, The Clash and The Ramones – but Lord Webber says he’s considering writing his own songs before it reaches the stage.

‘There may be songs for me in it, but it's obviously got songs in it as it stands,’ he told CBC Radio.

He said he was ‘very excited’ about adapting the idea, but said nothing about where and when a show might hit the stage.

The impresario has just finished writing a musical based on the life of Stephen Ward, the man who triggered the Profumo affair.
