Could you write the next Irish comedy hit?

Scripts wanted!

An Irish production company is actively looking for up to ten sitcom writers in its bid to find the next comedy hit.

Sideline Productions – the company behind the Irish language remake of Cheers! – has launched a search for writers able to create shows that will appeal to both UK and US audiences, as well as domestic ones. It's hoped that any show will duplicate the international appeal of such diverse comedies as Father Ted or Mrs Brown's Boys.

The company says: ‘We are seeking funny, commercial and popular scripts with laugh-out-loud moments and populated by larger-than-life characters that can grab the imagination of a large TV audience.

‘It is important writers accept we are looking for TV writing talent that understand the comedy beats, pace and structure of a scripted half hour form.’

Sideline will be running workshops for those writers thought to have the most potential – and final scripts will be read by actors and filmed to make showreels in a bid to attract funding.

The deadline is March 30, although only those born or living in Ireland are eligible. Click here for more details.
