R1 shows for Nick Helm and Doc Brown

Station continues its comedy push

Doc Brown and Nick Helm are to host their own Radio 1 comedy specials.

Rapper-turned-comic Brown will mix hip-hop and stand-up in his show, called Dong Comedy. It will feature comedians Marlon Davis, Michelle De Swarte and Fergus Craig alongside beatboxer Hobbit and award-winning DJ Big Ted.

Meanwhile Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Helm will be presenting a Christmas variety spectacular that teeters on the brink of chaos.

The BBC promises ‘a festive helter skelter of jokes, singalongs, party games, new music, poems, and some of the finest young comedians on the circuit’.

The news comes just a few days after it was revealed that Helm was to make a Channel 4 comedy pilot, Uncle, and is part of a drive to bring more comedy to Radio 1.

Earlier this month it was announced that former Chortle Student Comedy Award winner Tom Deacon will be fronting a new Wednesday-night comedy show on the station from the new year.

Both Helm and Brown’s shows will be recorded in front of a live studio audience. See our free tickets page to be among them.
