Revealed: Top Ten stand-up DVDs of 2011
The bestselling DVDs of 2011 have been named – with Peter Kay taking the crown for the top stand-up title, as expected.
Bishop has two titles in the top ten – as his 2010 release Elvis Has Left The Building also sold well in 2011.
Kay’s Tour That Didn't Tour DVD was No 9 in the overall 2011 chart, including film and TV titles, after selling 911,000 copies. Evans was No 13 with sales of 793,000.
Overall, DVD sales were up 8.4 per cent in December compared to the same period last year, to £473million. However over the whole year. the market fell 4.9 per cent due to the impact of download and video-on-demand.
Almost a quarter of all DVDs sold in a year are sold in December – reflected in the fact that almost 40 stand-up titles were released about a month before Christmas.
The Inbetweeners movie was one of the successes of the year, with its 1.9million sales making it No 3 in the bestseller list behind both instalments of Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows – even though it was only released on December 12.
The third Channel 4 series of the sixth form comedy was also the second biggest TV title of the year – behind Mrs Browns Boys. Celebrity Juice: Too Juicy For TV came in at number 3, underlining the success of comedy on disc, with Downton Abbey fourth.
