Jack Dee has signed a publishing deal to write his memoirs.

Publisher Transworld said it had been pursuing Dee for three years, and that the deal was struck after a 'hotly contested' auction.

The book will be published on its Doubleday imprint next autumn.

Editor Susanna Wadeson said: 'I have been a fan of Jack Dee for more than 20 years, and it feels like I've been chasing this book for nearly as long... We could not be more excited to be his publisher.'

Dee added: 'I'm delighted to be associated with Transworld. Especially now I know that they are a prestigious publishing house and not a dodgy sex shop in King's Cross.'
