Carr lands C4 gameshow

Celebrity Ding-Dong set for Friday nights

Alan Carr is to front a prime-time celebrity gameshow for Channel 4.

Celebrity Ding Dong will pit a team of five celebrities against members of the public in a series of comedy tasks and questions.

Six 45-minute episodes have been ordered from Open Mike Productions, the TV company linked to comedy agency Off The Kerb, which represents Carr.

Filming begins in November and the show is expected to air in a Friday-night slot early next year.

Channel 4 commissioning editor Andy Auerbach told trade magazine Broadcast: ‘Tonally, it'll be more Shooting Stars than Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and will be played for laughs.

He added that Carr was ‘warm, charming, funny and camp… one of those brilliant entertainers in the mould of Paul O'Grady. He's one of the few people who don't alienate anyone’.

The show will be the first major solo show to be fronted by Carr, who will also continue to host The Friday Night Project with Justin Lee Collins.
