Pegg pens zombie movie

A new zombie movie written by Simon Pegg has been snapped up by Film Four.

The Spaced star's Shaun of the Dead is described as a romantic-action-comedy movie set in London, and revolving around an aspiring DJ who has to tackle the undead.

The movie has been developed by Michael Winterbottom's Revolution Films, and formally announced in Cannes.

It will be directed by Edgar Wright, who is known for TV comedies such as Is It Bill Bailey?, Murder Most Horrid - and Spaced.

James Wilson, Film Four's deputy head of production, described the film as "a naturalistic character comedy about our zombified couch potato culture, into which crashes a real zombie action movie".

He added: "Edgar is that rare director who can create a singular world, so you know you're going to be taken somewhere bold."

Pegg and Wilson described thieir work as "Richard Curtis shot through the head by George Romero".
