Winner of the variety award at Funny Women 2010 in the guise of upper-class socialite Chastity Butterworth, Gemma Whelan went on to find international fame when she was cast as Yara Greyjoy in the HBO's Game of Thrones in 2011, appearing as a recurring cast member from the second season onward. In 2016 she played Kate, servant to David Mitchell's William Shakespeare, in Ben Elton's BBC Two sitcom Upstart Crow
