Daniel Foxx writes Bedtime Stories For Privileged Children

Comedy book based on his TikTok videos

Comedian Daniel Foxx has signed a deal to write a book based on his TikTok videos.

Bedtime Stories For Privileged Children is based on the tales the comic reads about the’ decadent extravagance of the rich’, which typically attract 200,000 to 500,000 views.

Publisher Monoray calls it ‘the funniest book of the year’, adding: ‘Read about the everyday adventures of Rupert, Shallotte and Genevievette as they ski, holiday and adrift around Selfridges – while always keeping a healthy distance from the dreaded hoi polloi.’

Other adventures include: ‘Rupert goes on holiday! But what is 'duty free'? And why do poor people love it so much?’;  ‘Cosmo goes to state school, where the teachers wear jeans and no-one can understand Latin!; ‘And Lily goes with Daddy to work! And fires Kate from marketing!’

The book has attracted cover quotes from TV comics including Joe Lycett, who called it: ‘a terribly funny book from an absolutely disgraceful person’;

Josh Widdicombe, who said: ‘ Daniel's writing is hilarious, although it makes me worry about how I'm bringing my children up’, and Tom Allen who said: ’Finally! Some stories to shut those little brats up who disturb me at brunch!’

Jake Lingwood from Monoray, who acquired world rights from Foxx’s agents Off The Kerb  told trade website The Bookseller: ‘You laugh at the children and their horrible families one moment – and then cringe in self-recognition the next. I think this is by far the funniest book of the year and definitely the most zeitgeisty.

Foxx added: ‘I can’t take much credit for this, because these stories came to me almost fully formed when I sat in my local bougie café and listened to the yummy mummies and delicious daddies discussing their luxury offspring.

‘I was compelled to note down some of the most ridiculous children’s names I’ve ever heard, along with some truly wild anecdotes, and a few years later, here we are.’

Subtitled Charming Tales of Wealth and Entitlement for Tots Who Were Simply Born Better, Bedtime Stories For Privileged Children will be out on September 12.

The 128-page book, which comes with black and white illustrations throughout, will be available in hardback from Amazon for £13.79, or from Bookshop.org, which supports local bookstores, below.
