Prince Harry performed a comedy routine with Stephen Colbert on his US chat show last night – making gags about Donald Trump.

The Duke of Sussex appeared on The Late Show under the pretence that he was hoping to get cast in a festive Hallmark film, given how so many revolve around women meeting a real-life prince at Christmas.

He joked that he would ‘do anything’ to secure a part, including settling ‘a baseless lawsuit with the White House – all the things you people in TV do’.

When Colbert protested that he had never done such a thing, Harry replied: ‘Maybe that's why you're cancelled.’

Colbert’s show is to end on CBS in May – news that was announced after the host criticised the broadcaster’s  parent company for reaching a $16million settlement with the President over a lawsuit many experts thought had no legal basis.

Harry wandered on to the Late Show set last night claiming he was searching for auditions for  Gingerbread Christmas Prince Saves Christmas In Nebraska.

When Colbert questioned why genuine royalty would be interested in that, the Duke responded: ‘You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you're clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?’

The host rejected that idea, prompting Harry to reply: ‘Really? I hear you elected a king.’

Later in the sketch Colbert pointed out that getting ahead in showbusiness is ‘all about who you know’ and asked: ‘Do you have a personal connection to any famous TV actresses?’
