Adventures Of Pink Peter
Former Blue Peter presenter turned comic Stuart Miles in his first four-woman show, Free tips on fashion and cosmetic surgery at all performances. Warning: this show contains gratuitous scenes of cross-dressing and wanton exaggeration.
I have known audiences to sneak out of shows, I have known acts to rant and storm off the stage, but never before have I known an act to sneak out of their own show 15 minutes before the end.
Former Blue Peter presenter Stuart Miles has settled on a new career as a comedian and has brought up a cross-dressing show for his Edinburgh debut. Three characters - a fashionista, a charity fundraiser and a cosmetic surgeon - all interlinked with a video of him undressing and changing into his next Primark frock.
This is car-crash viewing with all the associated emotions: pain, horror, sympathy and pity. You canít look away but you donít want to glimpse something really gory.
There are no jokes to be had here, save the few at the expense of the audiences dress sense. This just seems to be a man in a frock painfully looking for some kind of recognition.
There was a section of potato-peeling set to stripper music which must have been intended to be as funny, but it was more bemusing than amusing. Unlike most awful shows I didnít feel bored or disappointed; I felt overwhelming sympathy for a man who is desperate to be in the limelight and has had his vehicle removed.
Miles has a talent for performing, just not comedy. Itís a point I think he must be beginning to recognise after he exited the room after 45 minutes with the line ĎIíll be in the barí. I doubt that any of his remaining audience joined him.
