Original Review:
I went to Tony Lee feeling a little trepidatious, so dragged a reluctant husband with me. We had heard all the stories of what Tony Lee persuades audience members to do: getting naked, simulating sexual acts and so on. But what everyone failed to tell us is what a good-natured show this is. Lee is a nice guy. He does not want to make a fool of anyone for his own gain. He wants everyone to have a good time, so he moves through the audience, hands out vodka, downing shots with punters and creating a party atmosphere. He is a fabulously charismatic performer with a cheeky sense of humour and a resounding deep, sexy voice. No wonder people fall under his spell. My perception of hypnotists had been of smug, smarmy, superior men who lord their mysterious powers over us. I could not bear the thought of sitting through a show in their company. Lee, a Chinese Canadian, has none of this. He does not want to mystify the art of hypnotism, he only wants to have fun. There is no way you can get hypnotised if you are not a willing participant. And for anyone that does go under, Lee will make you a superstar. The ‘star’ of the show I saw just collapsed in giggles on the ground as he remembered going outside in his underwear after getting undressed onstage, simulating masturbation, and pretending to marry his best friend which ended in a r saucy love scene. The audience stood round him applauding. I have never laughed so hard in a show before. And this organic show is different every night, depending on what wicked thing Lee devises based on the participants and their friends. Tony Lee is just the kind of risqué late night show the Fringe has been searching for. Hallelujah! Reviewed by: Rosie Carnahan |

The best show I have seen at the Fringe. Bring him back next year! Five stars ***** Jim Lahey, September 2007 |

Saw Tony Lee a few days ago in Edinburgh, nervous at the start, but once he has his 'victims' there's nothing to worry about! - just sit back, relax and laugh more than you've ever laughed before, as the hypnotised members make complete fools out of themselves!! Brilliant, 5*! Will, August 2007 |

The funniest show I've seen in years. Tony Lee is an evil genius. An amazing show. Jay L, August 2007 |

What can I say? Unfunny unless you like to see your friends being degraded to the point of being unfunny! Seen hypnosis shows before done in a tasteful and harmless way - and much funnier. Tony Lee's show is tacky, the slowest Hypnotist I've seen (takes almost half of his show to hypnotise his volunteers...yawn yawn) Not worth the money. The Canadian are welcome to have him back if it is the sort of thing they like. Sam Briggs, August 2007 |

And in one fell swoop, Chortle entirely destroys its credibility. This is one of the most appallingly awful shows I've ever seen. I've never walked out of anything in my life, but I felt I had to take that life-changing step after enduring 50-odd hateful minutes of unfunny, unpleasant nonsense. Now because I am a good Christian, and I can recognise that other people in the audience were enjoying it I would perhaps allow that this is, say, a three star show, provided that your idea of high comedy is watch four hypnotised men involuntarily "ejaculating" into the faces of some randomly selected male members of the audience. Otherwise avoid this show as you would a rape-inclined bear. Reggie, August 2007 |

I thought it was really really funny Emma, August 2007 |

Saw him at the fringe, he was absolutely fantastic! I've always been very sceptical about hypnosis, but after seeing two of my friends pretending to be gay smurfs. Well it was the funniest thing ive seen in my life! Jemma, August 2007 |

It was kinda disgusting, but Tony Lee was hilarious. If you've ever seen a row of hypnotised people in a whole row on stage doing dodgy things (clothes on nevertheless) it is damn funny. This is a major show and definitely worth seeing. Yes, degrading, but the fact is it certainly was funny. James, August 2007 |

Seen him at my university. Didn't think they would allow 'adult' type show in the UK. Seen hypnotist shows before and this one is absolutely disgusting and degrading. There should be a law against it. remy, June 2007 |
