Richard Herring: Menage A Un

Original Review:
Richard Herring seems to have written more Fringe shows than This festival sees his most traditional stand-up show yet. Menage A Un so named because Herring considers stand-up That's clear from the very start, as he unleashes a brief He talks a little about his success, or otherwise, with women His policy of pushing and prodding at every subject until In these, and another inspired segment about insulting playground But at his best, Herring produces some of the most inventive, In the glossy, free programme, he ponders why he keeps coming Steve Bennett |

Sheer class. Go see. Philip Sheppard, August 2006 |

The man's an utter genius with impeccable comic-timing and jokes that ooze irony. I have seen his Edinburgh preview for "Menage a un" twice so far this summer and I laughed all the way through. I even laughed alone at one point, at a comment about a feminist icon. iMac Hunt, August 2006 |

I love his quest sagas, but with Ménage à Un he's proved he's equally adept at just an hour of more traditional stand-up. That's not to say he's not got some inventive and original material; if anything it proves you can do a very strong Edinburgh hour without having to pigeon-hole your material into some kind of moral lesson, paradigm or crusade. It's enough to just be really funny, and Herring's new show is. Brendan, July 2006 |
