The Flirt Lab is run by two ordinary-looking women called Freda and Judith, who want to beautify themselves and learn to flirt in order to attract boyfriends.

They back up their attempts with cod-scientific facts, such as "the optimum size for a woman's waist is 70 per cent of her hip size", before quibbling unamusingly over each other's chances in the dating arena.

There are a few funny, rambling moments, as when Freda announces the pair's intention to "explore what it is that makes a man a man and not a lady and why that might be nice". However, much of the show comprises dull conjecture over who might fancy the two and why, coupled with embarrassing silences when we are asked to take our clothes off or hold magnets up to see if we are attracted to the women.

The best part of this show was when it ended. Not just for the obvious reason, but for a rare display of inventive wit.

Judith allegedly received a text message from a crowd member. "I am in the audience and want to take you out for a drink," she read. "You will know me, as I will be the first man to stand up at the end." The audience (who up until this point had been patiently waiting to leave) stayed put for a good five minutes after the show finished, laughing properly for the first time.
