Show Rating:Ironic Yanks rated 3/5

Americans talking about football (or soccer, as they sometimes insist) and showing off their sense of irony. It's not going to take much for this show to exceed expectations.

And indeed it does, being simultaneously slick, funny and entertaining.

In fact, the best compliment I can probably pay is that, based on their material, you could easily forget that they are American. But the fact that it's all delivered at a volume level of 11 helps you remember.

Thankfully, too, it's not all about football. This energetic twosome, Eurocised by their stint with the Boom Chicago improv troupe in Amsterdam also tear into British politics and media - most notably our limited range film exports.

In fact, if you're expecting some new insights into the beautiful game, you may well come away disappointed, as it's pretty much based on the staple gags about England always dramatically losing, continental players' propensity for the spectacular fall when anywhere near a tackle and Gazza being a crybaby that have filled many an episode of They Think It's All Over.

And to be honest, the whole range of subjects tackled and the conclusions drawn are not that ambitious - but it is all enjoyably done with a flair and verve that makes the hour whizz by.
