Whatever happened to the Cambridge Footlights?
Once at the cutting edge of comedy, the student group now turns out comfortable, old-fashioned shows like this.
Trading on their impressive history, the team attracted an older-than-usual fringe crowd - and catered perfectly for their tastes.
Clearly believing that such staunchly middle-aged and middle-class topics as Giles Brandreth, garden gnomes and bras are inherently funny, the team trod depressingly safe ground.
A couple of decent gags notwithstanding, the script singularly failed to shine and the actors seemed to believe that delivering their lines in deliberately theatrical way somehow made them funny.
Though not truly awful, there's simply a dearth of inspiration here and considering the sheer scale of fresh talent on display across Edinburgh, it seems a waste to spend any time on this plodding, pedestrian show
