Big and Daft In Space

Original Review:
This delightfully silly no-brainer of a show, driven by the boundless energy of the talented Big and Daft trio, is a highly enjoyable slice of undemanding fun. In the finest traditions of the double act (except numerically, obviously) this lively routine relies totally on the effortless interaction between the three - Ian Boldsworth, Rob Rouse and Jon Williams. There's no plot to speak of, save some unresolved nonsense about being trapped in concrete-encased house on the moon, it's not really a sketch show and there's no stand-up. What you do get, quite simply, is three exaggerated characters larking about on stage, exuding an irresistibly infectious warmth and vitality. Though occasionally very inventive, these clownish creations get most of their laughs from unsophisticated foolery - a ridiculous puppet here, a pratfall there and a good measure of knockabout fun. It's familiar, lowbrow humour, yet these modern-day jesters are likeable exponents of the art. Leave your intellect at the door, and enjoy some puerile entertainment. A great early-evening warm-up for a demanding night's comedy. |
