Jeremy Leverton: iStandup
Note: This review is from 2008
With the discomfort and unease of an open spot on their debut night, Leverton explains that he is no good at remembering set lists and fumbles as clumsily with his prompt sheets as he does with his words. The ideas are tired and the limited number of jokes are predictable, budget airlines, Americans, George W Bush are all topics that interest him.
Unfortunately not only is he unable to find fresh angles on these worn themes,he frequently struggles to even produce a recognisable punchline, ending every routine with ‘so there you go…’ to fill the void where he was unbelievably expecting a laugh.
Making matters worse he has a conversationalist in the front row who aids in escalating the discomfort by highlighting the fact that Leverton has absolutely no idea how to interact with an audience.
Painful silences and some more frantic shuffling of prompt cards draw the whole torturous experience to a welcome end.
