The Nualas are a lot funnier than they have the right to be.

Their overplayed Oirishness, gently mocking comic songs and over-the-top glittery personas provide all the ingredients for a dangerously twee show.

But there's no chance of that, thanks mainly to their raucous banter and a healthy dose of that peculiarly Irish absurd streak that gave us the likes of Father Ted.

And this is similarly off-kilter stuff, infused with an infectious sense of the ridiculous and an instinctive desire to mock everything and anything.

In this show, sadly billed as their farewell performances, the shimmery trio paint the familiar and wryly amusing picture of their impoverished upbringing and empty lives interspersed with witty, if not rip-roaring, songs.

And they merrily chat, and flirt, with the audience, building a friendly rapport despite the hardly intimate surroundings of the Assembly Rooms Ballroom.

It all makes for a good craic - if a little light on belly laughs. So goodbye, Nualas, we'll miss you.
