Tom Davis has big plans

Murder In Successville is set to be made into a movie, star Tom Davis has revealed.

He likened the adaptation to 'Lethal Weapon, but just one guy in the whole film that's got no idea what's coming next'.

The third series of the improv comedy hybrid, in which Davis stars as DCI Sleet, solving murders with the aid of celebrities and a cast of comedians playing parodies of other famous people, returns to BBC Three on Wednesday.

And plans to transfer to the big screen are already under way.

'Yeah, we've worked out a way of doing it as a feature' he told Channel 4's Sunday Brunch. 'I think we've been so ambitious this year to push it, the BBC are so supportive of making it as a show, but in our heads we just want to try and push it to the next level. Just that idea of having more and more people around the film that wouldn't quite know what's going on.'

Davis, who can currently be seen in Ben Wheatley's shootout action-comedy film, Free Fire, has also shot a role in Jo Brand's forthcoming cinema debut, The More You Ignore Me, based on her novel.

In an interview with the BBC, Davis confirmed that a movie would be 'the next thing' for Murder In Successville.

'There's been quite a lot of interest with just the style of what we do, with improv and corpsing, so it's a difficult one,' he said. 'This series was incredible. It was so much fun upscaling and building it so it's natural to start looking to what the next step is.

'We try to not stand there and go "well that's worked", but instead we try to grow it. So, I think the next thing would just be trying to add to that really and make it bigger and crazier. Bring it all back... serial killers... explosions… there's a way of doing it for over an hour.'

Celebrities featured in the new series, which will air on BBC One after going out on BBC Three, include Richard Osman, Martin Kemp, Lorraine Kelly, Reggie Yates and Professor Green, with Davis having suggested last year that he'd like to get Adele for a feature-length version.

Gemma Whelan previously portrayed the singer in the show, with other comic turns including Paul Whitehouse as Len Goodman and Paul Kaye as Louis Walsh. Character comic Liam Hourican co-stars in the series as Police Chief Gordon Ramsey, while Luke Kempner, Colin Hoult and Cariad Lloyd have also been regulars.
