'I'm as surprised as you are'

Frankie Boyle will host Have I Got News For You this Friday, it has been announced.

It will be the first time he has been in the hotseat – and comes eight years after he last appeared on the show as a panellist.

Programme-makers Hat Trick admit that his booking is ‘controversial’, and Boyle himself said: ‘I’m every bit as surprised as you are that I’m hosting this.’

Citizen Khan creator Adil Ray will also be on the show, with the second guest yet to be confirmed.

Have I Got News For You, which picked up a Bafta last night, will return to BBC One at 9.30pm on Friday.
