BBC Two will return to Latimer Crescent

BBC Two has commissioned a second series of its comedy series Two Doors Down, midway through the first run.

The show stars Arabella Weir, Sharon Rooney and Elaine C Smith as residents of a suburban Glasgow street, Latimer Crescent.

It started as a one-off New Year special for BBC One in 2014, before being picked up for a six-part series. Three episodes have so far aired, attracting an average of 1.3million viewers, more than the 1.2million the 10pm Friday night slot usually averages.

Two Doors Down is co-written by BBC comedy commissioner Gregor Sharp, who is taking a sabbatical from his job to pen the second series with Simon Carlyle. The BBC say Sharp was not involved in the decision to recommission the show, which was made by his boss, the controller of comedy commissioning, Shane Allen.

It has not yet been confirmed whether all the cast – which also includes Alex Norton, Jonathan Watson, Doon Mackichan, Harki Bhambra and Jamie Quinn –will be returning for the new batch of six episodes.

Meanwhile, Toast of London producer Kate Daughton has been recruited to take Sharp's job while he is away.
