The prospect of a Blackadder comeback has been raised again, by star Tony Robinson.

The Baldrick actor says he has spoken to the rest of the cast about a new series – and they were all in favour of reviving it, 26 years after the last series.

Sir Tony, 69, told The Sun: 'I do think a new series of Blackadder is on the cards. I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now.'

But he warned: 'Expectations for a new series will be high because people not only remember the original, they remember who they were when it was on. It’s a big danger.'

Sir Tony also joked that Hugh Laurie might now be out of their price range after making it big in Hollywood as the star of House, saying: 'The only problem is Hugh’s fee. He’s a huge star now — or so he’d like to think.'

Speculation has raged about a possible fifth series of Blackadder ever since Blackadder Goes Forth aired in 1989. Rowan Atkinson last revived the character for a sketch in a 2012 Prince's Trust benefit at the Royal Albert Hall.

However just four months ago Blackadder writer Richard Curtis said it was unlikely the team would reunite 'because it was a young person’s show about how ghastly people in authority were'. And he added: 'I think it would be very hard for that particular group of people to come together.’

Sir Tony was speaking to promote Time Crashers – the historical reality series in which celebrities including Chris Ramsey life the life of bygone eras – which starts on Channel 4 tonight at 8pm.
