Rory McGrath arrested

Comic held over alleged drunken assault

Rory McGrath has reportedly been arrested in Cornwall on suspicion of assaulting a couple.

The comedian is said to have been bailed over a drunken altercation in Pool, West Cornwall, which happened at 10.15pm on Friday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: ‘Police were called to a property in the Pool area, near Redruth, following a report that a man had assaulted a male and female couple, who it is understood, were attempting to assist this man who was heavily in drink.’

‘A man in his late 40s received a bloody nose and scratches to the face. A 57-year-old man from the Cambridge area was arrested for common assault and an actual bodily harm assault.’

The Western Morning News has named the man as McGrath.

The comic was born in Redruth, and is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe this year with a show called Bridge Over Troubled Lager alongside his co-star from Eighties TV comedy Who Dares Wins, Philip Pope.

It is described perhaps unfortunately, as ‘the show where music and comedy meet, have a few drinks, fight, then stagger home singing hits from the 60s’.

McGrath is also known for being a regular panellist on They Think It’s All Over and for his Three Men... adventures with Griff Rhys Jones and Dara O Briain.
