Brand: Arthur remake was a mistake

Regrets over movie remake

Russell Brand has admitted it may have been a ‘mistake’ to remake the Dudley Moore comedy Arthur.

His 2011 version was savaged as ‘pitiable’ and a ‘sorry wannabe’ by critics, who felt Moore’s joie de vivre was missing from Brand’s portrayal of the drunk playboy. However it did reasonable business at the box office, taking $12.6 million in its opening weekend.

But now Brand has admitted he didn’t notice the flaws in the script, telling The Sun: ‘I was just embracing things enthusiastically. I thought I could do anything.’

He added that he felt 'a little bit bruised,’ by the critical reaction, adding: ‘I felt I’d made a mistake.’
