Cast of US remake revealed

The cast has been revealed for the American remake of Jo Brand’s downbeat hospital sitcom, Getting On.

Alex Borstein - best known for voicing Lois Griffin on Family Guy - will play Dawn Forchette, the head geriatric ward nurse, who is based on Joanna Scanlan’s character Denise in the BBC original.

Laurie Metcalf – whose sitcom credits range from Roseanne to The Big Bang Theory – will will play Dr. Jenna James, the overworked temporary Director of Medicine based on Vicki Pepperdine’s consultant Pippa Moore.

And Reno 911! star Niecy Nash will play empathetic Marta Ortley, who returned to nursing after her alternative career as an estate agent failed. She is based on Brand’s character, Kim Wilde.

The remake was announced in August, but the TVLine website has just revealed the casting details.

Pepperdine and Scalan wrote the BBC series with Brand, and all three are credited as executive producers on the remake.
