BBC goes for 3G sketch show

Own series for Ginge, Geordie and Geek

Sketch trio The Ginge, The Geordie and The Geek are to make a six-part series for BBC Two

The commission follows a successful pilot earlier this year, and the finished show is due to air early next year.

Graeme Rooney (The Ginge), Paul Charlton (The Geordie) and Kevin O’Loughlin (The Geek) are currently filming in Glasgow.

They have performed at the last four Edinburgh Fringes, where their two shows a day selling a total of 7,000 tickets this year. However their traditional style has not wowed the critics, with a slew of two- and three-star reviews.

Their shows are written by the performers plus co-writer John Hoggarth.

In a statement, the group said: 'After four years of hard work, millions of dodgy props, a swimming pool of sweat, and hours in the rehearsal room we've been given an amazing opportunity to bring our comedy to a wider audience.'

Publicity blurb says sketches include ‘sexually confused speed dating, new dads confronted with dirty nappies, gay vegetarian lions, an adulterous Yeti caught out on Skype [and] a cow that wants its milk back’ ... the latter of which sounds like the old adverts for Cravendale milk.

There are also running gags such as ‘the cleaner with a mop and hazard sign’ who appears at the worst possible moments, such as the operating theatre.

Robert Gray, executive for production company Yalli, added: 'It’s fantastic news that BBC viewers will get to know their hilarious collection of loveable rogues, furry misfits, angry trolls and criminal seagulls. Their sideways take on life is truly unique and of course very funny.'
