Russell Brand to face MPs

At Select Committee on drugs policy

Russell Brand is to give evidence to an Commons Select Committee about drugs policy.

The comic will talk about his addictions alongside Chip Somers, chief executive of the detox centre Focus 12, which helped his with his dependency.

Committee chair Keith Vaz said ‘Hearing from those personally affected by drugs use is essential to our inquiry.

‘I welcome Russell Brand's openness about his addiction and recovery. I hope that his experiences will help us understand the nature of addiction and the impact that it has on addicts and those around them.

‘There is still a great debate about how we deal with supply and just how effective a deterrent legislation is for those who take drugs.’

Brand will give his evidence on Tuesday, when the Home Office committee will also hear from opponents of drug liberalisation, including Mail on Sunday journalist Peter Hitchens – who has previously had a run-in with Brand about the decriminalisation of drugs:
